What is PDRN?

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a naturally-occurring building block in your DNA that helps to repair damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen production. It also has tissue repairing and anti-inflammatory properties which make its use applicable in regenerative medicine.

The treatment came from stem cell regenerative medicine where it has been found to have high levels of DNA extract closely aligned to human DNA.

This treatment is so versatile that it can address several issues in different parts of the face and body It does this by being able to make the cells turn back the clock and behave like younger cells that 'know exactly what to do'.

The highly purified extract (that can even be used on those who have fish allergies) is injected into the skin using a local anaesthetic. This causes small blebs on the skin that usually disappear within 3 days. Sometimes a cannula can be used to reduce the down time and potential bruising.

Research and clinical evidence

Research studies have shown the following effects:

  • 115% increase in skin hydration
  • Over 50% increase in skin thickness
  • 47% increase in collagen production
  • 38% increase in skin elasticity
  • Reduction in inflammatory redness and improvement in rosacea and acne
  • Improvement in acne scarring
  • Reduction in pigmentation resulting from sun exposure

Are PDRN’s for dark circles under the eyes?

The tear trough area is the area between your cheeks and lower eyelids. As we age, we lose volume in the tear trough (under-eye) region. This causes dark circles, wrinkles, thinning skin and under-eye hollows to form and appear, making us look tired. This ageing change can start as early as our late twenties, depending on one’s genetic predispositions and lifestyle choices.

Are my eyes dark in colour or do I have a hollow?

Dr Wass will assess your under eyes and suggest the correct treatment depending on you facial anatomy and suitability. Fillers in the tear trough area, can migrate with time, it can happen immediately after the treatment or even years down the line. PDRNs are another option to treat any pigmentation under the eye and also crepey skin, this is a great way to improve skin quality before considering dermal fillers.
Cost for a single session is £250, a course of 4 treatments is £900.

What does the procedure entail?

During the procedure, the PRDN treatment will be injected into your skin with a cosmetic cannula to ensure even distribution and reduce downtime as much as possible. While downtime depends on the patient’s skin type, it is generally minimal. You might experience some redness and tiny bumps immediately after the treatment, but this should subside within an hour.

When are results visible?

The skin rejuvenation process varies from patient to patient, most patients are able to see some improvement immediately after the first treatment. PDRNs are the future of regenerative aesthetic medicine and can be used to help boost collagen and improve overall appearance without changing the shape and structure of your face.
